Hi! If you've got to this page then I presume you want to know more about me. If not, stop reading now and hit the
back button !
Okay, I was born in Northampton (where my family still live) in 1974 and went to school in Northampton, doing GCSEs and
A Levels at Northampton School For Boys. After this I went to the University of East Anglia in Norwich where I got a BSc (hons) in Computer Science.
After that, I was the Technical manager of Net Communications which I left in
1996 to join UUNET (formerly PIPEX) as a NOC Engineer. I then became a Network
Engineer in Network Operations, which led me to become a Senior Backbone Engineer, in charge of a small team of people
who keep the UUNET UK backbone running. Then I moved on to the Network Planning team where we developed strategies and
new technologies for the UUNET UK backbone of tomorrow. Following some re-orgs, I became a Senior Network Engineer in
the ABN team, looking after the UUNET networks in Ireland, Norway, Finland and the UK. The company then became known as
MCI and I worked in the EMEA Data Systems Engineering team, where I helped to design
EMEA networks and solutions. In 2003 MCI announced the closure of the Cambridge office and I decided against
relocating to Reading. I had joined Pipex in 1996, when it was a great, small, Cambridge-based company and MCI was not
great, not small, not Cambridge based and barely a company any more. So I took the money and ran, and now I work for
Level3.
In 2003 I became a full member of the British Computer Society (MBCS), a Chartered Information Systems Practioner
and a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Here is my BCS certificate and
here is my CEng certificate.
I started the first Norwich City presence on the Internet in 1993, which was also one of the first football sites on the Internet. I've had a
season ticket at Norwich for quite a few years now. I always sit in the Lower Barclay, currently in E-M-117.
